Gilmore Park United Church is a congregation of the United Church of Canada. We seek to know God's love more deeply so that we might share it more widely!
We strive to be a community in which all feel safe and welcome to be their true, marvelous selves. Although we certainly do that imperfectly, our hope is to embody the love of Christ, which breaks down boundaries, works for justice and frees us to live lives of abundant grace, deep belonging and service to others.
History
Gilmore Park was founded in 1957 and named after the Gilmore families who were early settlers in West Richmond. The first building was completed in 1959 and the first Sanctuary in 1968. A new church building was completed in 1999, along with the Gilmore Gardens Retirement Residence (50% owned by GPUC).
Our Mission
Gilmore Park United Church is a community of disciples of Christ called to grow in and by God's Spirit, practice hospitality and serve the world.
What We Believe - A New Creed
We are not alone,
we live in God's world.
We believe in God:
who has created and is creating,
who has come in Jesus,
the Word made flesh,
to reconcile and make new,
who works in us and others
by the Spirit.
We trust in God.
We are called to be the Church:
to celebrate God's presence,
to live with respect in Creation,
to love and serve others,
to seek justice and resist evil,
to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen,
our judge and our hope.
In life, in death, in life beyond death,
God is with us.
We are not alone.
Thanks be to God
